THE ALLERGIES - EP REVIEW

The Allergies - Reconcile EP (Jalapeno Records)

Release Date: Out Now

If you're suffering from the January blues (and let's face it, who could blame you?) then I've got a blast of something to pep you up like one of those green smoothies that look and taste rank but do special things to your insides. That's right ladies and gentlemen, the two man party machine that is the Allergies are back with their new 'Reconcile' EP and it might be just what you need. Opening with the title track, the Allergies boys bring in Charles Morgan for vocal duties and they create an intense, pumping track that sounds like the Detroit car factories churning out automobiles as the bass and brass press forwards ominously.

Recent single 'Treat You Right' continues the energy with a bluesy undertone in the low slung melodies and you can almost hear the Alabama harmonica screeching out in the warm night air. 'Sometimes I Wonder' brings the brass up a level with a swaggering energy that is given extra class by the underlying organ melody - like a tailor made suit with silk lining and a matching hat. The final track on this collection is 'God Walked Down' which has a gloriously 90s bigbeat meets old skool funk vibe that will have even the hardiest of souls up and dancing whether they've heard it before or not - it's that kind of tune. I bloody love the Allergies and they never fail to bring their A-game with every release so I would urge you to get them in your ears and lobby your local festival to book them because the summer is their natural environment. Music to be joyful to. Muchos gracias amigos.
