I'm so pleased to receive more material from the excellent Sumika who first came to my attention in 2022. 'Absolution' gets going with a crisp, stomping beat and is swelled by a simple piano melody before Sumika's vocal joins in with delicate but soaring beauty. There's a theatrical and performative element to this song in the great tradition of British female solo artists like Kate Bush and PJ Harvey but then there's something else in there too which reminds me of Portishead in the cool delivery of the vocals and impact of the beats. A genuinely exciting and original artist.
