Bristol trio Holy Popes (great name) get things kicking with the dirtiest bass line of the year so far and I suspect they will be holding that title well in to 2023. 'Jerry' snarls and prowls from the start as that bass snakes around a tight and punchy beat before the vocals join in with a sound like IDLES meets Iggy Pop in a boxing ring with Nick Drake as the referee. The intensity rises, the guitars squall like seagulls fighting over half a pasty and the whole thing attacks the senses but in a brilliantly vital way.
