SOUNDS LIKE LILY - EP REVIEW

Sounds Like Lily - Glad I Met Ya EP

Release Date: Out Now

Devon artist Sounds Like Lily already grabbed my attention with an impressive single so I was eager to see what this collection had to offer. An atmospheric 'Intro' leads in to 'Daydreaming', the aforementioned single, gets us going with the sweet and soulful vocals recorded with breathtaking honesty of sound and set to the summery vibes that make this such a beautiful tune. 'Cupid' has a real Motown vibe imbued with soul, blues and heartbreak as the bass ambles along side by side with the clicked beat that breaks in to a shuffle by the chorus. On title track 'Glad I Met Ya' we get to luxuriate in what is one of the best voices in the UK right now while a soft keyboard melody and gentle drum beat provide perfectly sparse accompaniment.

Next up is 'The Feeling', a more ponderous and thoughtful offering that meanders and floats on the delicately chosen guitar notes as a beat nudges things along with gentle encouragement. The final track of the collection is 'Penny' which kicks things up a few notches with the energy of Chic performing and Joss Stone singing but in an intimate Jazz basement in downtown San Francisco. Once the 'Outro' fades out, there is only one logical conclusion to be left with; thi is an impressive early career collection for Sounds Like Lily but the fact that she can improve from this is genuinely mind blowing so let's keep an eye and an ear out for her in 2023 shall we?
