IOTA - EP REVIEW

IOTA - Tyrants EP

Release Date: Out Now

Bristol five-piece IOTA have dropped their debut EP 'Tyrants' and it is the kind of release that really makes you sit up and pay attention. The first of the four tracks is 'Demons' which has a brooding but punky energy full of snapping drums, grumbling bass and the kind of guitars that ping around you like lasers. 'Ballet Box' features a vocal performance that Courtney Love would approve of but the band sounds like a hybrid of Pixies and My Vitriol and that's a combination I can get on board with.

On 'Sometimes', the band bring the energy down slightly with a sound that will play will in America due to the epic guitars, attitude fueled vocals and the kind of rhythm section just made to fill in every gap of a stadium sized song. Final track 'Control' is definitely the pick of the bunch as the intense guitars and unblinking vocals make this an almost physically exhausting experience (in a good way). IOTA are that special thing in that they are a heavy band who know how to control their power and hold on to a melody and, for that reason, I'm excited to see/hear what comes next.
