INDIGO BAY - EP REVIEW

Indigo Bay - After Dark EP (Heist or Hit
Records)

Release Date: 4th November 2022

Indigo Bay are one of my favourite new bands of 2022 so I'm delighted to share their new and fizzingly brilliant five track EP, 'After Dark'. The itchy small-town urgency of opener 'Bats' just screams of wanting to break free and see the world as guitars, beats and bass ping around like a tightly packed circle-pit at a youth club. On 'Bottled' the quartet of college comrades get a little mellower with a swooning and sweeping road trip of a song full of lazy guitars and broad vistas as far as the eye can see.

Recent single 'Papercuts' continues the expansive horizon scanning with the guitars rising and falling like a hand hung out of a car window during a summer cruise. 'Lost' gets back to a more urgent energy with downplayed vocals rolled out atop some sparkling guitars that shimmer in the early evening sun with that 'last night of the holiday' vibe. The EP climaxes on 'Say What You Wanna Say' which feels like a breakup song but the kind of breakup that is good for both sides and will ultimately lead to better things. Indigo Bay are the kind of band you can fall in love with and I'm sure they'll be bursting out on to scenes all over the UK in 2023 so keep an eye and an ear out for them, that's my advice.
