THE SCRIBES - EP REVIEW

The Scribes - The Journey EP

Release Date: Out Now

Westcountry Hip-Hop collective The Scribes are back with a new EP and a slew (that's right, a slew) of live dates to keep you dancing right up until Christmas. 'The Journey' EP opens up with 'The Shipwreck' which sets the theme for the whole collection with an ominous piano melody laid over the top of a thick beat and smooth bass line. The lyrics flow like rum on a pirate ship with numerous nautical references and an almost relentless delivery that doesn't let up for one second. 'The Desert' follows next with a Lemon Jelly-esque melody creating a platform for the Jurassic 5 style lyrical flow to shine on.

The second half of the EP sees us moving in to 'the Forest' which has a sinister and slighltly disorientating vibe that sits somewhere between the Might Boosh and Samantics which, as it happens, is exactly the kind of forest I want to find myself in. 'The Return' brings things to a close with some honky-tonky piano sounds laid out over a chunky beat and some furious scratching. The Scribes are the real deal and if you haven't had the pleasure of experiencing their sound yet then this is a great jumping off point so let's get to jumping, OK?
