THE BLSSM - EP REVIEW

The BLSSM- Pure Energy EP (Fueled By
Ramen)

Release Date: Out Now

Sometimes you hear a new artist and you think 'yeah, this one is going to go the distance'. The BLSSM is one such artist and they are living up to the hype on new EP, 'Pure Energy'. Opening with 'I Hate Sunday', The BLSSM mixes Avril Lavigne attitude with Dua Lipa pop melodies and a vibe that is somewhere between Blink 182, No Doubt and Pink. 'Dizzy' comes next which bounces loosely along with a laid back beat and The BLSSM's vocal hitting every note with pin-point precision as they take on the issues of carrying passengers through life.

"I think I'm ready for a breakdown" is the opening line of 'Evil Twin' which opens like a straight-up pop track but soon evolves in to a pop-punk anthem with rumbling bass and the potential to be a live favourite. The woozy grunge guitar that opens 'Not Today' reminds me of early Alanis but mixed with a whole host of other 90s influences from LEN to Sheryl Crow and that's a clever balance to strike. The EP finishes up on 'Little King' which seemingly borrows a riff from Eagle Eye Cherry before rolling out a vocal performance that has more deliveries than an Amazon Prime driver on Christmas Eve. This is the sound of someone determined to make their mark but without compromising on their sound so expect to hear and see more of The BLSSM as I'm expecting 'Pure Energy' to blow up if there's any justice in the world.
