This is certainly one of the most intriguing and interesting new releases I've been sent recently and that's not just because Robocobra Quartet is an exceedingly good name for a band. The Belfast collective's new single 'Wellness' falls somewhere between LCD Soundsystem, Talking Heads, the Fall and Hot Chip as a jazzy bass line and drum beat is overlayed with coughing and throat clearing in the beginning. Then a Baz Luhrman-esque monologue on a health regime begins talking about being barefoot in the park, drinking charcoal and balancing electrolites whilst testing the PH of your urine. It's way better than it sounds from that description, largely down to the bouncing saxophone notes and gradually building chaos. This is what it feels like to be obsessed with your wellness and it's not good for you. The more I listen, the more I'm convinced this song dances the line between genius and madness which is hard trick to pull off but Robocobra Quartet do it with aplomb. Pure brilliance.
