TOVE STYRKE - SINGLE REVIEW

Tove Styrke - Hardcore (Sony)

Release Date: Out Now

Putting out a single called 'Hardcore' accompanied by a press shot that looks like a podium dancer is going to have people pigeonholing this release as oversexualised. The thing is, you don't need to look too deep below the surface to realise that this song is actually an incredibly emotionally charged track that deals with issues of obsession in terms love. The slow dance meets electro-clash vibes make for compelling listening and, vocally, Styrke is in the territory of Robyn with her switch between breathy vulnerability and screaming passion. Alt-pop par excellence.
