There is a sense of helplessness about the Russian invasion of Ukraine but that doesn't stop us from caring or wanting to do something. Nick Hudson has jumped in to action and will be donating 100% of the proceeds of this release to Red Cross Ukraine and Razom for Ukraine so you should buy it whether its any good or not. 'Lights Svoboda', fortunately, is an atmospheric and moving epic based around a rolling piano melody and vocals singing out from a hollow cave. As the song slowly swells in its intensity and the depth draws the pit of your stomach down, Hudson piles on the pathos with the slow blink of his eyes and the horror of what is unfolding before our own eyes is brought home. The crackling of a geiger counter is brought to life as the song buzzes and hums to a close and all we can do is wait for the air raid siren to go off. Beautiful, haunting, depressingly necessary.
