Common Goldfish - Feel The Fuzz

At the end of every year I pick out my favourite debut of the year and I'm always amazed at the quality of the material that people release as their first recordings. That statement has never been more true than now as I sit here on a Friday night listening to North Londoners Common Goldfish and their debut single 'Feel The Fuzz'. The Tottenham outfit have embraced the early days of baggy with a bass line that is stickier than treacle and fatter than yo momma (sorry) which works brilliantly with the loose beat keeping things moving nicely. Vocally, this has an 808 State vibe and the guitars ping and bounce around with such a perfectly balanced energy that you can't help but get in to the groove. There is nothing about this I don't like and if this isn't in contention for debut of the year come December then there are a lot of bands out there waiting to release material. Oh, and there's a fade out ending too which is a rare treat these days.
