CHARLIE TYLER- EP REVIEW

Charlie Tyler - With All That Lonely Held Inside
EP (The Dream Real Company)

Release Date: Out Now

One of Cornwall's fastest rising talents Charlie Tyler has just dropped her debut EP and it is one hell of an introduction to an artist going through something of a metamorphosis. 'With All That Lonely Held Inside' opens with the title track which is the very definition of a sad banger that evolves from a decent enough pop song in to something with sweeping melodies, grand piano chords and the kind of songwriting that should be gracing the national airwaves. 'Photographs' is next and if you can listen beyond the slightly Euro-poppy synth melodies you'll find a voice full of class and emotion carrying the song through with some 80s hints and a little Scando-alt-pop vibe.

'I Wish I Could' is a slower track which has a sense of regret running through it but also speaks of someone outgrowing the place they grew up and wanting to move on but feeling that sting of guilt. The Euro-pop synths are back on 'Outside' but the driving beat and structures could easily be a Snow Patrol or Coldplay banger but then 'Girl Without You' embraces that 80s vibe again with a touch of Cyndi Lauper about it showing off Charlie Tyler's range when the chorus kicks in. The EP finishes with a live version of the title track which I wouldn't normally approve of but this stripped back piano and vocals rendition is beautiful and shows the song off brilliantly in all its sparse gloriousness. There is more to come from Charlie Tyler and this is just a stage in her development but the signs are good and I could listen to her voice all day long which is surely the most important thing.
