There is a jaunty, story-telling flow to this new release from Tre Burt that is pitched somewhere between Bob Dylan, Ben Harper and Failure Machine. 'By The Jasmine' is the latest single from the Sacramento artist that tells a sadly all too familiar story of a black man being picked out for no reason and punished for no crime. The rolling finger picks on the guitar and shuffling beat are joined by a tinkling piano melody as the blues theme meanders in on the evening breeze. Burt's voice has a gorgeous, soft drawl but there's a steeliness too that comes from experience and a need to get the message across.
