Although now based in Wales, N'Famady Kouyate's roots are firmly in the West African musical traditions with a little Jazz thrown in for good measure. This new release, 'Balafo Douma', celebrates the playing of the Balafo (a percussive instrument rich in tone and history) with celebratory horns, a gently lurching beat and joyful vocals all adding to the party vibe. This is the kind of music that makes you want to sway and dance as the heat of the day dies down in to a sultry evening and you want to let the melody and rhythms flow through you freely. Beautiful.
