Scottish artist Malka has been
through the mill over the past 12 months with COVID and trying to maintain a
career as an independent artist as well as spearheading a number of other
campaigns and good causes and being a mum. And still, despite all of that, she
has managed to write, record and release another fabulous single in the shape
of ‘Alive’. The rippling synths and crunching beats get things going straight
away with a retro-futuristic vibe that is part Goldfrapp and part Giorgio
Moroda with its slinky melody and seductive energy. Then there’s Malka’s vocal
which is half-whispered in the vein of Kylie during her finest disco moments as
she sings “I don’t wanna feel just fine, I’ve just gotta feel more alive”. We
should all be glad that Malka is alive, making music and shining a light for
all other musicians out there.
