This isn't what you might be expecting from a young female musician based in Nashville but then Erin Coburn thrives in that space between what you expect and what you actually get. 'Flip' starts like an alt-pop seduction song with the emphasis on pop as her soulful, sultry vocals charm you and disarm you. But then the pre-chorus drops and her crunching rock guitar starts to emerge from the shadow to add some real spice to proceedings. This is the musical equivalent of going on a date with someone you've worked with for years and only noticing that they have a pierced tongue and a glint in their eye when you sit down across the table from them. Anyone willing and able to flip the script like Erin Coburn does is alright by me.
