ROXANNE DE BASTION - SINGLE REVIEW

Roxanne De Bastion - Molecules

Release Date: Out Now

There is a crisp, 90s energy to this track that I absolutely adore and I think that comes from two places. Firstly, Roxanne De Bastion reminds me of Sophie Ellis-Bextor during her days in theaudience and this might well have been her trajectory in an alternate universe. Secondly, Bernard Butler is on production duties which can only ever be a good thing such is his Midas ear. 'Molecules' is exactly three minutes of slowly building anger and frustration that delivered with poise through lines like "you can shout at molecules and see them react". The chugging guitar gets gradually more intense and louder, transforming this in to a White Stripes meets Queens of the Stone Age beast by the time we cross the line breathless but unburdened, such is the cathartic nature of this track.
