THE CLOCKWORKS – SINGLE REVIEW

The Clockworks – Feels So Real (Creation23)

Release Date: Out Now

Irish outfit the Clockworks were one of my favourite finds of 2020 so I’m really glad to see them back and firing on all cylinders in 2021. The band’s new single, ‘Feels So Real’, rattles along at a fair lick with raw, untamed garage-punk energy pulsing in every vein. “There’s a buzz in the air by the glow of the lamps, the city’s a lady, the city’s a tramp” goes the opening lyric delivered with all the direct charm of Fontaines D.C. or the Boomtown Rats – “tripping over bottle tops, skip round syringes, trollies in the river and gates off their hinges”, you get the picture. It’s bleak and honest in the Irish tradition but set to music that is so vital, visceral and instantly infectious you can’t help but get a little buzz off the whole juxtaposed experience.
