Jaguar Jonze was one of my favourite
discoveries of 2020 so I’m glad that she is maintaining some momentum in to 2021
with new single ‘Astronaut’. A solitary and isolated bass line drifts through
space like a signal from an alien planet as Jonze floats on top of her voice as
if there is no gravity in this song. There are elements of David Bowie and
Peter Gabriel to the structure of this ambitious and cinematic composition but
also Kimbra and Florence + the Machine which, in terms of a supergroup, is
pretty awesome. In terms of all of that coming from one artist – well that’s
just mesmerising.
