50 YEAR STORM – SINGLE REVIEW

50 Year Storm – The Fanlight

Release Date: 30th October 2020

The beginning of this new release by Cornish rockers 50 Year Storm should come with a bit of a health warning, such is its ferocity and intensity. ‘The Fanlight’ opens with a searing (and I mean searing) guitar line that sounds like Tom Morello cutting through the doors of the Whitehouse with a rusty chainsaw and then the bulldozer starts up, sounding suspiciously like some absolutely powerhouse drums. That’s us at about 12 seconds in and I don’t know about you, but I already need a breather. But 50 Year Storm aren’t hear for breathers, oh no, they crack on with unfurling this absolute behemoth of a track that is aggressively juxtaposed with the cliché of the kind of music that should be emanating from ‘sleepy old Cornwall’. Stadium filling vocals, a groove so deep you could bury the entire Tory government in it and nobody would notice and the bands trade mark keys vs guitars motif make this an absolute winner and certainly worth surviving 2020 for.
