Oakland’s Fantastic Negrito then now is probably the ideal time to strap on a
pair of headphones and lose yourself in his world. ‘How Long?’ is the latest
release from one of the hardest working musicians around and it starts with a
slow groove full of blues and soul which is, in my book, always a good place to
start. Fantastic Negrito is angry but he keeps that anger in check while still
making sure you get the message, singing through clenched teeth and providing an
impassioned performance in the video as the guitar chords and organs stab hard
and with purpose. This song is timely, perfectly delivered and hits right at
the heart of the issues currently facing the black community at the moment.
