CHERRYADE – EP REVIEW

Cherryade – Sinking Ships EP
Cherryade - Sinking Ships EP

Release Date: Out Now

Running about a month late with this one but I could not let my favourite brat-pop duo release a new EP without giving it the once over. London pair Cherryade release the ‘Sinking Ships’ EP and it might just be the pure escapism and reminder of more hedonistic times that we need. Opening with ‘Bang. Pop. Go Worldwide.’, we are treated to the best 80s drum machine sound I’ve heard since, well, the 80s but Ella’s vocals are like a mix between Shampoo, Lily Allen and Kate Nash in all the best ways possible. ‘Feel Good’ has a touch of the Ting Tings about the rhythmic directness and simplistic melody but that doesn’t take away from the infectiousness and effectiveness.

‘I Love Me’ has an assured drum and bass combination which is perfectly matched by that high attitude vocal and the kind of energy that will have you strutting around your lock down disco like Lady Gaga high on poppers and Monster. The final track on this collection is ‘Do My Thing’ which you need to add to your post-Corona playlist for that first big night out – it will get you jacked and set your phasers to fun. Cherryade are the perfect antidote to every acoustic guitar wielding live-streamer right now so bring some balance to your world with this new EP if you want something that’s pitched midway between the Pussycat Dolls and the Lovely Eggs. The Pussycat Eggs?
