When you’re looking for some
fighting spirit in amongst the relentless shit tide of bad news that is 2020
then you could do an awful lot worse than checking out Cornish rabble-rousers
the Velvet Hands. Sadly, Covid-19 has done for their UK tour dates but that won’t
stop the tour-de-force that is new single ‘Fallout’ which is a definite stepped
progression from previous releases. Sure, the band retain their trademark
energy which has traces of the Libertines, the Clash and very early U2 but
there’s more ambition here as they adopt a more confident, almost stylish
stance a la the Killers or the Jam. The Velvet Hands juggernaut rolls on and
when all this virus stuff is out of the way I would recommend getting to one of
their gigs pronto – the pent up energy and desire to perform is going to be
borderline sexual.
