It might seem odd to recommend a
song that starts with the line “Yr old dad is dying” but such is the infectious
joy and frivolity of Catholic Action that I’m going to do just that. ‘Yr Old
Dad’ takes the energy of early Supergrass, the song writing approach of Dutch
Uncles and the English eccentricity of Young Knives and covers it all in some
of Slade’s leftover glitter to make something gorgeous and sparkling. The
searing pop guitars, bouncing beat and moderately sleazy vocals all make for
the kind of song that will have you dancing around your kitchen in your
underwear on day 18 of self-isolation. Enjoy.
