LAURAN HIBBERD – SINGLE REVIEW

Lauran Hibberd – Frankie’s Girlfriend
Lauran Hibberd - Frankie's Girlfriend

Release Date: Out Now

Of all the plethora of superb solo female artists currently roaming the British Isles, Lauran Hibberd is definitely in my top three and rising right now. Hibberd’s latest single, ‘Frankie’s Girlfriend’, is a classic tale of lost love, jealousy and missed opportunities that would be fitting for a heartbroken Motown song. But, and here’s the genius, it’s set to a sparse indie-rock melody that brings the likes of Rooney, Fountains of Wayne or Weezer to mind and, for an Isle of Wight soloist, Hibberd could give the excellent Charly Bliss a run for their money. Deadpan vocals with a flicker of despair in the intonation and sweet melodies played on fuzzy guitars will get me every time so just keep doing what you’re doing.
