The ‘potential’ within Berries
has now been finally realised I think as the London trio’s new single sees them
taking on a more polished, rounded but, crucially, persistently direct sound. ‘Silent’
opens with a Pixies-meets-At the Drive-In guitar line blended with Justine
Frischmann-esque deadpan vocal delivery which is too delicious a combination to
pass up. The power comes from a rhythm section which bubbles and pounds in
equal measure and when these three women are firing on all cylinders it’s hard
to imagine anyone taking them on in a bare-knuckle fight. Feisty, controlled,
direct and bristling with a sense of creativity that makes them more than ones
to watch, they’re well beyond that now.
