DEUX FURIEUSES – SINGLE REVIEW

Deux Furieuses – Year of Rage (Xtra Mile
Deux Furieuses - Year of Rage
Recordings)

Release Date: Out Now

If you haven’t come across the force that is Deux Furieuses then you really need to get on board before this thing takes off. The London based duo have recently hooked up with the Xtra Mile recordings, got producers Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey) and Mark Freegard (the Breeders) to work on their new album and have Jimmy Cauty of the KLF featured in their new video so, you know, judge a band by the company they keep. ‘Year of Rage’ is a typically abrasive and direct affair with a menacing punk energy and brooding undertones that signal unrest on the horizon. The growling guitars of Ros Cairney are juxtaposed by her vocals which sound like Annie Lennox if she’d taken a more punk path after the Tourists split up. The drumming of Vas Antoniadou sounds leaner and more punchy than ever before and the video has a satisfyingly militant angle to it with black hoods and red flags letting you know that these huddled masses mean business. If you’re not already fighting back then now is the time to start fighting and Deux Furieuses are leading the charge.
