SADIE HORLER – SINGLE REVIEW

Sadie Horler – Washed Up Mermaid
Sadie Horler - Washed Up Mermaid

Release Date: 19th June 2019

Devon songstress Sadie Horler is back (at last) with her superb new single ‘Washed Up Mermaid’ and it deserves your attention for a number of reasons. Firstly, this is musically fantastic but that was never in doubt. The picked acoustic guitar notes ping and pop with gentle abandon like leaves on a breeze or jetsam on the new tide while subtle violin notes weave them together. Seconly, Horler has a poetic style to her lyrics that quietly demand your attention as she sings of “Shoes where shells used to be” and “oh the wild angry seas, floating debris” – this is a song with a clear message about pollution of our seas but that doesn’t stop it from being beautiful in its form and delivery. Finally, the video (a first for Horler) is a lo-fi but utterly perfect accompaniment to a song that should be heard far and wide for both style and substance.
