REDD KROSS – SINGLE REVIEW

Redd Kross – Beyond the Door (Merge
Redd Kross - Beyond the Door
Records)

Release Date: Out Now

Californian power-pop outfit Redd Kross were one of the first bands I got to review back in the 90s when I started this whole writing about music ‘thing’ and I’ve loved them ever since so colour me excited to get a copy of their new release. ‘Beyond the Door’ is the title track of their forthcoming new album and it packs one hell of a punch from the outset. A rasping bass line, punchy drums and a gang chorus of ‘yeah, yeah, yeahs’ signal the beginning and soon Redd Kross are off, swaggering across the dancefloor with their eyes locked on yours and a mischievous smile playing on their lips. The honky-tonk piano is somewhere between T-Rex and Bowie while the general vibe and energy is pure glam-punk-pop smothered in sunshine and doused in 70s cocktails. Glorious stuff.
