Texas trio Quaker City Night Hawks are putting in a strong bid for video of the year and the song that accompanies it ain’t half bad either. ‘Suit in the Back’ is a devilishly dirty blues rock slab in the vein of Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Black Keys and combines snarling guitar, menacing drums and some low down bass notes along with soothingly soulful vocals to make one sexy ass noise. This reminds me of discovering Brit rockers Orphic Soop back in the 90s and getting hooked on their grooves. The video tells the tale of a drugs mule trying to skim a little off the top and coming a cropper but it’s done with high production values and a strong narrative of not underestimating anyone if you want to see the light of day. So, listen up and listen good people.
