MATT CALDER – SINGLE REVIEW

Matt Calder – The Mystery
Matt Calder - The Mystery

Release Date: Out Now

Devon dwelling multi-instrumentalist Matt Calder has emerged from his self-built cocoon to share another musical missive with us and, as always, it is one of the most unique sounds you’ll hear committed to electronic soundwaves. ‘The Mystery’ uses a melody performed on the Kora (a West African lute-cum-harp) which sounds like harmonious chords being played out with the style of Jose Gonzalez and Calder’s dusky voice adding a grittiness to the floaty instrumentation. When the trademark Handpan’s are added in to give the Kora something to bounce off, you feel this song start to swell and it feels so beautifully organic that it is hard to imagine this music coming from anywhere other than nature. As Calder retreats bac in to his studio cocoon we should just enjoy the beauty he creates while it lasts and then wait for the next one, whenever it comes our way.
