The indie-pop quintet Saytr Play might have their roots in
Manchester but there is so much more at play here. New single ‘Bang Average’
rattles along at a pace that the Killers would be hard pushed to keep up with
but there is a definite and distinct Northern English energy in there as well.
The micro-drama of the lyrics comes from the school of songwriting that Pulp had
so much success with, as do the choppy guitars, but the anthemic melodies have
been learned by hanging around by the bike sheds with the Kaiser Chiefs and the
Pigeon Detectives. British indie at it’s very best.
