It’s no secret that I like a little bit of rock’n’roll and I’m
particularly keen to support the British rock scene so getting to discover the
talents of Matt Mitchell & the Coldhearts was a bit of a treat. The band’s
new single, ‘Black Diamonds’, is very much in the Soundgarden, Aerosmith, Monster
Truck vein of things with big, meaty riffs, driving drums and a bassist who
knows how to grind a groove out of four strings. Some organ slathered over the
top like barbecue sauce on a rack of ribs sets this off perfectly but it’s Matt
Mitchell’s assured rock vocal that really puts the cherry on the…..ribs. This is
a great example of a healthy British rock scene that’s bubbling under the surface
even though it’s not reflected in the mainstream at the moment.
