MATTHEW GORDON PRICE – SINGLE REVIEW

Matthew Gordon Price – Vos
Matthew Gordon Price - Vos

Release Date: 2nd November 2018

It might not sound like the most overtly complimentary statement to make about a song but I’m not sure I’ve heard a more undulating track this year and I mean that in a very positive way. Plymouth based Matthew Gordon Price starts new single ‘Vos’ with the whisper of a broken man in the early hours of the morning, pouring his heart out on to the last remaining ice cubes because he’s run out of booze. The soft, reluctant chug of the acoustic strings are met with a tired “Where are you now darling? I hope you feel ashamed” which is the darkest hour before the dawn moment. However, the daybreak of the chorus as the rich, Fleetwood Mac-esque vocal harmonies and swelling instrumentation flood in to fill the room with light, hope and a sense of purpose. Then we drop down in to a piano and vocals valley again before climbing up to the hill-top of the chorus to find salvation with Price’s Springsteen meets Noah Gundersen rasping vocal. Take this as a warning shot ahead of a new EP out in 2019 and further progress from this mercurial talent.
