SISTERAY – EP REVIEW

Sisteray – Sisteray Said (Vallance Records)
Sisteray - Sisteray Said

Release Date: Out Now

Londoners Sisteray might just be the last of the proper indie bands. They gig, they write, they rile and they do it all at 100mph with no seat belts on. The ‘Sisteray Said’ EP is their calling card of intent but by the time you’ve taken a moment from your busy schedule to listen to it they’ll be on to the next gig so don’t hang about. Recent single ‘Wannabes’ gets things rattling along with a stylish riff and some Franz Ferdinand swagger and Glam-Punk attitude whilst jabbing a finger squarely in the faked tanned faces of the vacuous fame hungry masses clogging the airwaves in 2018.

‘Rumour Mill’ has the rhythm section of Arctic Monkeys at their peak, the kitchen-sink drama of Mark E. Smith fronting the Long Blondes and the hips of Jarvis Cocker in the mood for seduction. The guitars that open up ‘Algorithm Prison’ are straight out of a sweaty, basement rehearsal before they launch in to the kind of indie-punk that only the likes of Cassels are producing at the moment. A simple but effective Clash-esque bass line heralds the start of last song and title track ‘Sisteray Said’ which flirts hard with intensity before delivering with a dizzying climax that should, with any justice, mean that all of their live shows finish in a sweaty, feedback blur. Urgent, lean and vital stuff from a band truly in their element.
