London quartet Gold Baby are
building up to the release of their debut single, ‘Whay Party?’, and it’s a
debut worth getting excited about. The grungey pop of this track lives in a
strange purgatory between the dead eyed, deadpan delivery of Elastica and
Sleeper and the slacker noise mentality of Veruca Salt or Belly with the
melodies to match. There’s a really appealing sway about this that gets under
your skin and a special mention should go to the drumming of Ian Lee who
manages to give this track a fresh, live feel without ever losing tempo or
balance. There’s more to come from these guys, I’m pinning my colours to that
particular mast right now.
