PIP HALL – SINGLE REVIEW

Pip Hall – Fire (My Little Empire Records)

Pip Hall - Fire

Release Date: Out Now

Pip Hall has now elevated herself beyond ‘promising teen talent’ to genuinely engaging artist with a bright present, never mind her future. New single ‘Fire’ is cool, sophisticated, charming and aloof as it mixes ingredients from the likes of Ladyhawke, Arcade Fire, Christine & The Queens, Anna Calvi and Lana Del Rey to make a jutting, edgy slice of alt-pop. The guitar notes bounce like a penny on a tight sheet, the beat has no fat on it whatsoever and the synths are almost as dreamy as Hall’s vocals which have now settled in to a style all of her own. I’m not remotely surprised that Hall is making good on her initial promise of the last 18 months but that doesn’t make me any less impressed.
