There are a few bands that I get
really excited about when a new release drops in to my inbox and New York duo
Lion Babe are one such band. New single ‘the Wave’ is a typically groovy and
funky track with scratchy, tight guitars being comforted by a thick-ass bass
line and embellished by some gorgeous horns. A rap flow by guest artist Leikeli
47 fits perfectly and no momentum is lost as vocalist Jillian Hervey sings “Everybody’s
moving through the wave” and you can almost picture the clubs full of thrill-seekers
moving in unison to the beat. There are elements of Chic, Kelis and Alicia Keys
but with a Brazilian vibe cutting through things and a heat that you just can’t
ignore running through every beat, note and vocal tone. I’m glad to see these
getting some bigger stages but what’s it going to take to bring them across the
pond to some European audiences, huh? Come on over guys, don’t make me beg.
