Having spent all week talking
about one beast from the East, here comes the Norwich based beast that is The
Thinking Men. New single ‘I Wanna be Good’ makes a confident entrance through
the saloon doors as it strides over to sit down at the poker table amid a
flurry of guitars, pounding guitars and wearing a jacket made of lush, velvety
organs. Staring down the other players, The Thinking Men make eye contact with
the National, Grinderman and Queens of the Stone Age without blinking once as a
bead of sweat makes its way from brow to throat. From the tight rhythm section
that keeps this heart beating to vocals of Johnny Raspin that sound like the
Devil in full flight in a Vegas lounge bar, this track has got me purring. Not
one for the faint hearted.
