Ferris & Sylvester – Made In Streatham
Ferris & Sylvester - Made In Streatham |
Release Date: 2nd February 2018
Everyone’s favourite London duo
Ferris & Sylvester are just about to release their new EP, ‘Made In Streatham’,
and it’s as gorgeous as it is eagerly anticipated so let’s just dive straight
in shall we? Opening track and recent single ‘Better In Yellow’ is just as
kooky and flirtatious as ever in all its George Ezra meets Ikea advertisement
glory so if you haven’t discovered this one yet then do yourself a favour and
brighten up the tail end of your winter. The mood drops down suddenly on track
2 though as ‘Sometimes’ strides firmly in to Laura Marling territory as the soft
voices of our two heroes curl around each other like sleepy cats on a cold
night – it’s hard to know where one begins and the other one ends but you don’t
really care because it’s just beautiful and heart-warming.
On ‘The Room’ the pair slip in to
a nice country vibe but as the lyrics are about renting a room on Streatham
Hill then it has a distinctly English vibe in between the plucked strings and
slathered organ. For such delicate and tender musicians, the lyrics on ‘Loser’
come as something of a surprise as they sing “I always knew you were a loser
and now you’re gonna lose her” atop sparse notes and late-night violin that
pulls at the heart strings in the way Harbottle & Jonas do so well. The EP
closes out with ‘London’s Blues’ and it’s an absolute delight with it’s threat
of a hoe-down and a rhythm borrowed from a sped-up version of ‘Come Together’.
All in all, this EP is a superb collection and will be in the running for EP of
the year at the end of 2018 for its song-writing and musicianship as much as it’s
warmth and heart.
