They may look like a bunch of
ringers for an underground bare-knuckle fighting circle, but Portland’s Blitzen
Trapper actually have a lot more love in their hearts than their press picture
would suggest. New single ‘Dance With Me’ is something of a warning shot prior
to an album release and US and European tour dates. Things get started immediately
with a pleasing rock’n’roll MOR chug and smooth vocals pleading with you to
dance just one more time. Elements of Red Kross, Grandaddy and all the great
70s American AM Radio rock’n’roll bands are all there in a hearty, satisfying
soup just ready for you to dip your bread in and get supping. The addition of
the improbably fantastic dance off video between two groups of seemingly bored
office workers is a touch of genius and makes me more fond of these guys than I
expected to find myself.
