RISCAS – SINGLE REVIEW

Riscas – Right Kinda Day
Riscas - Right Kinda Day

Release Date: 1st December 2017

The buzz currently surrounding Brummie lads Riscas makes them feel like Arctic Monkeys for the Twitter generation which is worrying for Twitter if they are to go the way of Myspace. Anyway, new single ‘Right Kinda Day’ is an immediately uplifting and likeable slice of indie-pop that pays as much attention to its soul as it does to its melodies and that’s a great approach. Melodically this is pitched somewhere between the Killers, the Maccabees and U2 just before they went ‘Joshua Tree’ massive with sparkling guitars and driving bass lines punctuated by fresh drumming. Vocally, frontman George Maycock has a tone that balances on the beam between pop slickness (see Harry Styles) and the desperation of someone who is desperate to put as much power and accuracy in to his performance. All in all, the package is strong and the buzz is pretty much justified although I’d put money on this not being the strongest song these guys will put out in the next 6 months. Ones to watch, for sure.
