Reigning Days – Reigning Days EP
Reigning Days - Reigning Days EP |
Release Date: Out Now
Right, listen up plebs. We’ve got
something special here so pay good attention. South Devon trio Reigning Days
have been honing, tightening and fine tuning their sound for a while now,
taking their time to let all the flavours mix and bubble up until the pressure
cooker is ready to explode with devastating effect. The result of that patience
is this incendiary debut EP which opens with all the force of Royal Blood and
twisted complexity of Biffy Clyro. ‘Empire’ is the track that is shouldered
with the responsibility of carrying this opening off and it does it with
precision – hypnotically swirling guitars, battleship sized drums and growling
bass all join forces like some fucked up Power Rangers to give Godzilla a kick
in the nuts so hard that he has to return to his lair for a good long think.
If that wasn’t enough, ‘Renegade’
follows hot on its heels with an intense looped riff and power chords in the
chorus that hammer, hammer, hammer relentlessly like Band Of Skulls or Queens
Of The Stone Age but with directness. On ‘Friendly Fire’, the trio take things
to a slightly kookier, edgier place with a hint of Feeder at their very best or
Them Crooked Vultures with a more British soul. As suddenly as this onslaught
began it closes with ‘Crazy Horse’, a tune that channels the likes of Arctic
Monkeys and Kasabian at their stadium pleasing peak with those piston-like
drums pounding away industriously beneath the chiming guitars and sneering
vocals. These guys are the real deal and are already getting booked for the
biggest and best festivals in the UK but there is more, so much more, for these
guys to achieve in the coming months and years. Reigning Days are a genuinely
bright hope for British rock.
