This may well be the first
release I've had from Romania to review on this blog which means I need to
update my blog map (after I buy a blog map and some tiny flags). Nevertheless,
the intriguingly named Fine, It's Pink have a new single coming our way in the
shape of 'Young Burns' so listen up and listen good. The single opens with a
gentle menace of strained guitar notes and the ethereal voice of Ioana Lefter
giving Florence Welch and Kate Bush a run for their collective money. There are
elements of Radiohead and Swim Deep in the way the tune avoids any conformation
to standard structures and the way vocals and rhythms drift in and out of
prominence is truly a delight. With a perfectly suited video that is as complex
and multilayered as this song is, Fine, It's Pink present a a thoroughly
engaging package that really ought to be gaining them more attention. I can't
help but feel that this tune would go down a storm on late night 6Music and
might even cross over to day time if the DJs are brave enough.
