You would be forgiven for
thinking that a song called 'Slow Motion Suicide' was a Radiohead-esque anthem
to misery full of sighed lyrics and long, drawn-out notes. Nottingham combo
Ferocious Dog, however, don't do misery or introspection, instead they do
anger, rage and defiance with a side portion of mischief. Menacingly chugging
guitars and clear-as-day vocals get things going before the thud of a bass drum
joins in and then the story unfolds of a man fallen on hard times despite a normal
childhood and upbringing. It's an all too common story projected on to a
backdrop of music inspired by the likes of Levellers, the Pogues and Mad Dog
McRae. The fiddles join in and before long you can hear this being sung in an
old Irish pub on a street corner in London as the most boisterous of all wakes
kicks off around a pool table. Feisty and rowdy but never miserable and always
a lot of fun.
