Boddhi Satva, for those that
don't know (which included me until about 5 minutes ago), is the Godfather of
Ancestral Soul, a new genre that is sweeping across the clubs of Africa at this
very moment. This latest single, 'When The Lights', features some guest talents
but what is immediately apparent is that this is something very different. The
initial keyboard melody has a childlike quality but then the layers of vocals,
rapping, beats and trippy vibes all start to build up and you're left with
something between hip-hop, trip-hop and electro-psychedelia. If I was to
imagine this music coming from a group of established artists it would look
something like Moby producing Outkast with the Fugees and Parov Stelar
sprinkling their magic all around. Eclectic, multi-layered and a little bit
crazy but with a big fat groove running through the middle of it. You can't
argue with that.
