FRANK TURNER - SINGLE REVIEW

Frank Turner - The Next Storm (Xtra Mile Recordings)
Frank Turner - The Next Storm

Release Date: 3rd August 2015

Frank Turner really is a one of the musical miracles of modern British music. Million Dead were pretty good but when they imploded that really ought to have been the end of the Winchester troubadour. But no, not only did he go on to make a tonne of great records cram packed with meaty songs, he also went and opened the Olympics and is now taking on America. The beauty of it all is that most folk in this country have no idea who he is so it's like a stealth win which makes it all the sweeter. The lead single from forthcoming album 'Positive Songs For Negative People' comes out in August and, under the title 'The Next Storm', it is an unusually piano driven romp in the Bruce Springsteen oeuvre. Turner's voice is typically rough around the edges, tripping over the wordy verses and then belting out the life affirming choruses which we know and love him for. This is definitely an indication that Frank is stepping up to the big time and there's more than a nod to the American market which should see him getting much deserved adoration in the blues bars and whisky joints in Boston, New York and anywhere else with a soul, a conscience and a sense of rhythm. Finally, a British musical hero we can be proud to export again, it's been a long time coming.
