JUNIORS - EP REVIEW

Juniors - Barcelona (Robot Needs Home)
Juniors - Barcelona EP

Release Date: 20th April 2015

So, it's been a little while since I've written anything up on the blog and the main reason for that was a much needed break in the stunning city of Barcelona. Imagine my delight, then, on sifting through an overflowing inbox to find a fresh, new EP under the title 'Barcelona'!? It must have been written in the stars. The EP comes courtesy of Leicester quartet Juniors and kicks off with the uplifting and aspirational 'Elusion'. Chiming guitars, scatter-gun beats and a man-of-the-people vocal approach create a sound that is somewhere between indie pretenders and boy band slickness. 'We Swim' is up next with a more Maccabees meets Bombay Bicycle Club sound but still those layers of guitars, rhythms and vocal harmonies stack up to create a tower of impressive guitar-pop proportions. On 'Declare & Surrender', the Leicester lads take things up a level, however, with a definite Dutch Uncles influence which is always going to be a good thing in my book. The final track is a radio edit of 'We Swim' which loses the band half a point - I mean really, what's the point? - but all in all this is a cracking EP full of inventiveness, ideas, energy, positivity and vast, vast landscapes. The perfect tonic for the post holiday blues.
