LEWIS & CLARKE - SINGLE REVIEW

Lewis & Clarke - Black Cloud (La Societe Expeditionnaire)
Lewis & Clarke - Black Cloud

Release Date: 8th October 2014

Somewhat confusingly, Lewis & Clarke is not a duo but is actually the alias of Pennsylvania singer-songwriter Lou Rogai which is kind of irrelevant but it's good to know, don't you think? Naming yourself after American pioneers of exploration is a bold statement but you've got to back it up with the tunes and the chops. This new single, 'Black Cloud', starts off slowly with suppressed, autumnal melodies that soon give way to a crisp, clear piano line that is only held together by Rogai's smooth, honeyed voice. Beautifully, gorgeously the piano dances with the patter-pad of the drums as the cymbals crash like water on the rocks and the strings weave like hunting birds looking for prey. This is explorer's music and music that you want to discover new worlds to so strap on your back pack and get walking.
